My daughter returned home from a stressful babysitting job the other night. Â Apparently the only time the child wasn’t fussy and crying was when she had her pacifier. Â My daughter felt that she had somehow let the mother down by having to give in to baby’s demand for her binkie. Â Fresh off the episode of MTV’s Teen Mom where Maci struggles with weaning her son away from his pacifier, my daughter and I had a long discussion of the pros and cons of pacis.
Two of my three children were very attached to their pacifiers. Â I had a real struggle getting the oldest (the babysitter!) to give up hers, and would often find it clutched in her hand while she slept – and this was well into Kindergarden! Â The middle child grew out of it on her own, and my youngest would never take one, even as an infant. Â He was a remarkably chill baby, though, and I always wondered if this was somehow related to his pacifier disdain.
Do your babies and toddles use pacifiers? Â Do you worry about them getting too attached to them? Â Do you panic if it falls on the floor and you don’t have a spare? Â Send us a comment and let us know.
