If you are like most of us parents then you probably hated the T-Shirt’s that where being sold all over the web and at JcPenny. Some of the t-shirts read-
“I’m too pretty to do math.”,  “Future Trophy Wife”, and then  “I’m too pretty to do my homework so my brother has to do it for me.”
This entire controversy started when Melissa Wardy, a clothing designer and mom saw a tweet about the JC Penny T-shirts and asked on Facebook and asked the question “Why are we conditioning kids to wear something that degrades their self-worth?”
However, Wardy isn’t the only parents who thinks this way. There’s a T-shirt company that’s encouraging positive self-esteem (in girls and boys) from the start.
My Kinda Style is an Oklahoma based clothing company that offers T-shirts with hip, witty, and inspirational messages and images that make kids feel great and are pleasing to parents too. With sayings like ‘Little Blessing†to “I Can Be…†and from “Just Super’ to “Wow,” My Kinda Style is about providing the baby in the house, as well as toddlers, and kids with shirts that are as comfortable and empowering to them as the skin they’re in.
Single mom Shayla Mackey is the creative force behind My Kinda Style. Mackey finished college with a degree in Business Management while raising her daughter (as a teen mom). After working 6 years in the real-world, My Kinda Style is her dream. The company was inspired by her daughter and her love for art and fashion. Shayla also gives back and even has a special section on her website where people can nominate a deserving child in need.
