If you live anywhere near the Midwest right now, or anyone else really. You have a pretty good idea of what a house of bored children on a rainy day is like. Every mom knows about how the fighting, havoc, and chaos go down. Here is my list of rainy day activities to do.
Work in the kitchen– Baking is one of my children’s favorite ways to spend the time. From cookies and cupcakes, to veggie and fruit faces, and funny face sandwiches; we love doing it all. Plus a rainy day is the perfect time to make that gluten free pudding you’ve always wanted to try. Kids will love helping to measure and dump ingredients.
Art– You don’t just have to bring out the coloring books. Try doing finger paint, but if that’s too messy then try pulling out some construction paper and glue. Let your kids decorate their little hearts out with nuts, dried fruit, beads, birdseed, glitter, cheerios, buttons, and various small items.
Have an indoor picnic- Pull out the mess mats, paper plates, sandwiches, fruit boxes, and healthy snacks. Get the kids to sit down, and a have a fun indoor picnic beneath the table or in a fort.
Make forts– Grabbing a few thick blankets and some chairs is a great way to pass the time with kidlets. They’ll love playing in the finished fort and will beg you to leave it up long after the rain stops.
Read- Finally, you can always read. Never underestimate the power of books like Strawberry Girl, Little House on the Prairie, Harry Potter, and Winnie the Pooh. Forget movies or video games, let your kids imaginations broaden and their minds thrive.
What are your favorite rainy day activities to keep your little ones busy?

I grew up in Seattle, so I know that bored childhood rainy day routine all too well!

Forts! I have to admit, I like these as much as my kids do. Great suggestions!

I like to use rainy days to make blanket/pillow forts to read inside of. The kids will sit with me and read several books if you make it fun by being inside a fort first 🙂
