Did you know that your child’s nursery could be full of hidden hazards and dangers? I’m not just talking about small toys or dirt, I’m talking about toxic chemicals that might be lurking amongst common everyday items.
Paint for starters, is one toxic chemical. If most paint is unsafe for pregnant woman to use because of the fumes, what makes it safe to put on the wall of your little one’s nursery? Consider buying non-toxic paint sold at the Home Depot, to help create a safer environment.
Carcinogens lurking in the paint of toys and nursery furniture like a rocking chair, or crib is another thing to watch out for. Whenever you can buy eco-friendly, or at the very least non-toxic painted products. Also beware of crib mattresses that have chemicals lurking on the fire and waterproof coverings, and look for green or natural mattresses such as those from Naturepedic.
And while we’re talking about chemicals, keep a close eye on all baby clothing and toys that you buy. Many of them have harsh chemicals coated on them, so be sure to wash anything and everything that you can in organic detergent.
There are so many dangers lurking in the world and as parents it is our job to protect our wee ones from not only physical danger, but health dangers as well. Protect your little one and think green when designing your nursery!
