As fun as it is to go out, sometimes it’s nice to keep your family at home for the weekend. You don’t need to worry about getting everyone ready to go anywhere, and there are plenty of fun at-home activities that won’t cost you a thing. Here are three of the best at-home activities to try next time you plan a cozy family weekend.
Have a Movie Night
You can find movies that are exciting for any age group, and with the right home theater setup, your place can be just as good as any movie theater. Get everyone’s suggestions on what movies they’d like to check out and make sure you have a big-screen TV or projector so that the whole family can feel immersed in what you’re watching. You’ll all be much more comfortable at home than you would be at a theater, and best of all, you can have whatever snacks you want. Just be sure your heating system is on and working so your home isn’t as chilly as your local movie theater!
Play Card or Board Games
If you want something that gets everyone’s competitive streaks going, then a game night is a great choice. The nice thing about a game night is that whether you go with a deck of cards or board games, there are options available for any number of players, from large groups down to just two or three people. There are always the timeless classics that you and the kids probably know by heart, such as Go Fish, checkers or Monopoly, or you could all have a fun time learning something new.
Set up a Scavenger Hunt
You can still have an adventurous weekend, even if you are spending it at home. A scavenger hunt gives your kids the opportunity to be treasure hunters for the day, assuming you choose good hiding spots. To add an extra element to your scavenger hunt, consider doing a theme for it that’s related to your kids’ interests. If they like superheroes, you could leave a trail of clues that eventually leads to a new toy or comic book. Remember that if your kids are going to be digging around your home, you don’t want them catching a cold in the process. Make sure the heating is working properly and have heating systems serviced if necessary.
When your family is constantly on the go, a weekend spent at home can be a relaxing change of pace. Try one or more of the activities above for an at-home weekend everyone enjoys.
