Let’s face it, as nice as it would be to make some rooms off-limits for your little one, it’s not going to be easy. Begin by babyproofing the home
Chances are, you’re already babyproof your home when your little one began crawling. But it never hurts to go back through the space and see where you may have missed. Toddlers have a major curiosity and they will look around to see if there’s anything to play with. Be sure to color up your wall sockets, have your drawers in your kitchen child-proof, but it’s also very important that you have large furniture such as TV stands and bookshelves bolted down to the floor. Unfortunately, many accidents happen each year, so this is a very important thing that you must do.
You should also look into moving easy breakable stuff into an area that your child cannot reach, even if they tried to climb. Look into moving this very high on a shelf, or maybe try putting in a space that your child has no access to, such as your bedroom. It’s also important to make your child’s bedroom more sleep friendly too. Creating these little spaces doesn’t need to be expensive and it also helps them out by teaching them life skills of the various types of spaces that exist.
Encourage outdoor play
If your home has a lawn, such as a backyard, you should take advantage of this. Create an area outside just for them. This can be a sandpit, trampoline, playhouse, treehouse, or anything that’s to their liking. These little outdoor play areas don’t need to be expensive, and this can even allow them to learn about biodiversity such as the type of plants, bugs, and birds that are surrounding them. The backyard is a very fun and safe spot for your child and it also lets them be one with nature.
A space just for them
While a child having their own bedroom is excellent and a key part of their development, it’s also great for them to have additional space. Giving your child their own space such as a playroom is going to help them out in letting their creativity flourish. This fun and creativity can all be in just one room. This will also teach them the role of responsibility. It gives them the chance to organize their toys ( such as separating their Legos from their crafts) whenever it’s time to clean up.
But it also teaches them the importance of maintaining a tidy space. If your home doesn’t have a spare room, then their bedroom can work just fine as well. Since this is still going to be just their space for them to allow themselves to bring out their creativity.
