Gentle Naturals is a cradle cap care lotion. It is suppose to help remove crusty scales with calendula & vitamins. It comes in a 4 oz squeezable bottle with a flip cap top.
My Review
My son has some cradle cap and I wanted to say goodbye to it, Gentle Naturals was suppose to help. However, I am not sure that I can agree that it gets rid of cradle cap and have to admit this is not going to be a very positive review.
I only used it on my son’s head twice and on my husband’s head once (yes on my husband, I will tell you why in a second). First, it says that this lotion is light and non-greasy. It is greasy, but more like gritty. Not at first, but once it is rubbed into the scalp and hair. Then it has a sand texture to be exact. I strongly disliked how it made my fingers and my son’s hair feel.
Another thing I did not like is that it contains harmful parabens that is why I could only use it twice because I could not use it again in good conscious after my daughter read the label – she is my label reader. I think she actually told me before I used the product, but I had committed to doing the review so wanted to at least try the product.
I don’t know why, but I worried that the product was making my son lose his hair. Yes, I know most babies will lose their fine baby down-like locks, but he was fine before I used Gentle Naturals and then it seemed like his hair was starting to thin. Maybe it is coincidence, maybe not. He still has his head full of hair, so I am not saying he did lose hair, it just seemed like it was thinner. That is why I asked my husband if I could try it on his scalp. He is losing is hair and has some dry skin in patches where his hair has thinned. I just wanted to see if he lost any hair and if it helped with his dry skin. I did not notice any change, but still did not feel comfortable continuing the use of the product due to the paraben presence.
I also think the name Gentle Naturals is rather misleading because it makes you think it is a natural product when it really isn’t. Just being honest. It is actually distributed by a Pharmaceutical company.
Here are the ingredients:
Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Polyethylene, Canola Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Silica, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Zea Mays (Corn) Oil, Chamomilla Rcutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Glycin Soja (Soybean) Oil, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D), Tocopherol, Calendula Officianlis Flower Extract, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Fragrance, Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben
On a positive note, the parabens are listed last indicating that their amount is probably on the low side, and I did like the smell of Gentle Naturals.
